Andreas Steiner grew up in a mountain village in the Italian Alpine region of South Tyrol in the Dolomites. Steiner’s attachment to the region’s heritage is nurtured by his vivid childhood memories, like his time spent in pure nature, without electricity, in a small cottage, under heavy rain, with the farmer’s dog barking next door and days on end spent hiking.
After leaving the Dolomites aged 19, Steiner studied in Milan and London. He then worked for Prada, Miu Miu and Louis Vuitton. His visual identity is guided by a raw, essentialist and minimal aesthetic infused with the vigor of mountain spirit.
The alpine regions throughout Austria, South Tyrol and Italy offer countless hidden gems. Small family-run businesses with historic production methods underpin Rier’s collections. Putting quality above profit, Rier strives to generate value for local communities whilst ensuring continuity in a sustainable supply chain.
One collection at the time, Steiner has chosen to strengthen the brand’s focus on natural materials and local craftsmanship by creating a solid, timeless base line that focuses on subtle, essential evolution rather than design. Rier’s gender neutral wardrobe represents Steiner’s ability to disrupt tradition whilst safeguarding heritage and savoir-faire.
